Silver Linings

Recently I’ve been reflecting on the past 12 months, and more specifically this past calendar year. It’s been a challenging year. A year that I’m sure most people, if not all people, will always remember. I know I will.

COVID-19 has had a major impact in all areas that I work in and of course this creates personal challenges too.

In spite of the challenges, there have been many opportunities. What I call the ‘silver lining’. The dictionary defines a ‘silver lining’ as:

‘a sign of hope or a positive aspect in an otherwise negative situation. The phrase is often seen as part of the proverb, ‘Every cloud has a silver lining’, meaning that there’s hope or something good to be found in every bad situation’.

In previous posts, I’ve written about the importance of not losing our new learnings from this time. In my case, it’s making sure that all the new and innovative ways of working that we developed and the strong sense of connection and belonging that strengthened us during this challenging time are not lost. This is the silver lining, the positive aspects of our experience that I want to make sure we embed into our future way of working to create our ‘next normal’.

What new learning and lessons will you embed into your future way of working?
